September 23-24, September 26-October 1 at 7:30PM
Chase Fine Arts Center, Studio Theatre (FAC 224)

After the death of her mathematical genius father, Catherine, who gave up her own study of mathematics to tend to him, claims that she is the author of a mathematical proof found in the attic among his unpublished, mostly incoherent notebooks by Hal, one of his former students. But what 'proof' does Catherine have that she, and not her father, is the author? The elusiveness of genius in general and the difficulty of a mathematical proof in particular here become metaphors for the uncertainties of love, trust, and personal integrity. The play contains strong language. Not recommended for children under the age of 13.

"The Edukators"(German title, "Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei") (2004) is a comedy/thriller about three young Berliners who call themselves 'The Edukators': mysterious perpetrators who non-violently warn the local rich that their "days of plenty are numbered." The film was described in a NY-Times review as "Suburban Break-In as Political Statement, With Kidnapping: It is, to some extent, a sympathetic exploration of the state of political idealism in the contemporary West, where all avenues of resistance seem blocked or co-opted by the system. But it is also a sometimes mocking expose of what the old left used to call political infantilism." The film will be shown in German with English subtitles.
